Zion Trip 2010

This is a post from my only other attempt at blogging. The website is down now, but I managed to fish this out of my email. That jeep is gone, it's now a TV Jeep. We still have the Kodiak tent, but its barely big enough for the three boys and myself. This was a really important trip for the family as it was one of the first times we really got out, and we learned a lot about camping together. As always, Heidi was a trooper, but I learned that maybe a bathroom and heater was important for her. It's a lesson I'm trying not to forget as I look to replace, or sell our trailer.

Last weekend we got out for our first outing of the year. We started Thursday night in Beaver, Hotel camping. The boys thought the Butch Cassidy Inn sounded exotic. I was happy as it was clean enough and management was friendly.

Friday and Saturday night we stayed in the Watchman Campground right past the main entrance in Zion. I wouldn't want to stay there on-season, but off-season it was nice, quiet, and convenient. The weather was cool, but not cold.

We tested our new Kodiak tent, so far, so good, with plenty of space for the five of us. Moderate winds don't seem to phase it.

We did manage to see some wildlife: bighorn sheep, deer near the campground, and squirrels everywhere. Beside the visitor center and the easy hikes, we managed to expolore Grafton, a pretty little restored ghost town, along with some jeep trails above the town.
The Jeep did great, and we all had fun.
