Spring Game
Oh hi Jacob,
It’s Saturday night right now, I won’t finish this till tomorrow. Sometimes it seems that when I write to you Sunday nights all the things I want to tell you clash with my sleepiness and I’m not sure how well it comes out.
This week was pretty normal, it’s been cool and raining, which is nice because it will be hot soon enough. Work’s getting busy because Mark is about to leave for a couple of weeks. Which is a blessing and a curse. I still have my stupid cold hanging on, but it is getting better. Mom was home all week for spring break, which I think she kinda hates. Much like Thomas the tank engine, mom likes to be very useful. She went with grandma on Monday to look at funeral stuff. Her brothers tagged along, but I don’t think anyone has told them that they need to help and advise grandma and grandpa, not just tag along for treats. Funerals are so expensive, I think mom and I should start saving and planning so you boys don’t have to worry.
Tuesday mom got bored so she talked me into blowing off work at 4 to go to the movies with her. Of course I did, I love being with your mom, plus I had worked through lunch so I didn’t feel super bad. We saw this silly Sandra bullock movie, but at least I got popcorn.
Wednesday there was no young mens because of spring break, what a gift.
Thursday after work mom got that condo in deer valley and her and I went to celebrate my birthday. Because it was my birthday, she chose where we had dinner. It was a so called authentic Mexican food place. It wasn’t bad at all. I had ground beef street tacos. They were good, not great, and only cost $13 for three tacos and beans, which I calculate to be about 100 times more expensive than actual street tacos in Mexico. But hey, it’s worth it to be with your mom. After, we watched home improvement tv by the fire and sat in the hot tub for a few minutes. It’s really nice to be alone with you mom. She really is so great.
It’s Sunday afternoon now.
Friday we slept till about 7 and just kinda hung out. I wanted a new pair of Merrel’s for my birthday and the outlet stores didn’t open till 11. I got to decide where to go for breakfast. Honestly, I think most of the restaurants in Park City are designed less for eating and more for looking at each other. So I found a place in a gas station (of course I did) over by the Home Depot. On the way out from the condo, mom got her classic cup of coffee machine hot chocolate. She puts a bunch of creamer in it and it’s delicious. She was having a tough time keeping the lid on so I was having fun teasing her. I was doing pretty good keeping the lid on till just before we got to the restaurant. Then BAM! The like flies of and the coco goes all over my shirt and lap. Lucky it wasn’t burning hot, but it was brown and sticky. Also luckily I had a clean towel in the back seat for washing the car. As I was sopping the mess up, I also noticed that the crotch of my pants were blown out, so at least that was awesome. I was happy that there were working men eating there because it meant that the food was probably good and I probably wasn’t the scruffiest guy there. There were a bunch of Spanish speaking guys there. Mom says she misses you when she hears them. I notice that they all give me the side eye when they see me with an attractive white lady, so I give the plenty of stern looks. The food was almost Jim’s diner good.
After we went to the outlet stores, for my birthday gift I got my new Merrill Moab’s and mom got two pairs of shoes. It actually made me happy because I’m always bugging her to get decent hiking shoes and decent winter boots, AND combined they were cheaper than my one pair. While we there, she made best friends with the store manager. Learned all about her and told her all about us. Of course now this random lady knows you are serving in Mexico.
We went to the big Costco on the way home, then we hung out at home before we went to aunt Patti’s house. She was so sweet to have invited everyone over for my birthday. She had her most delicious lasagna and that good bakery cake. You should see the basement over there. Artie bought new carpet, a giant sectional couch, an 85” tv with a sound bar, a Nintendo Switch, and a pool table. What a fun place to hang out. I’m still fair at Mario Kart, the Switch controllers are much closer to the old N64 controllers I’m used to. I suck at pool, but I’m still much better than anyone there. I made my first two shots completely by accident. We learned that Spencer could be getting his mission call this coming Tuesday. He requested stateside English speaking. Ben chastised me when I expressed my thoughts that you shouldn’t dictate how you serve the Lord. He’s probably right, but he hasn’t convinced me that I’m wrong. I think that if you limit how you serve your blessings could also be limited.
Saturday morning was normal, mom and Joey made breakfast. Ben got home and we went to go pick up Artie for the Spring game. It was raining super hard as we drove through town, and because we had to pick Artie up we were a bit late. We missed the first series with Rising and Vele, but it sounds like it was awesome. It was sun and nice for a few minutes, but rained and snowed for most of the game. You can never really tell what the team is like, but both backup QBs looked pretty decent. I’m kinda rooting for Barns, he’s got a solid arm and he’s pretty fast, plus he has all the cred from the Rose Bowl. The Utes are getting a lot of hype. I prefer the Utes as underdogs, so the hype scares me a little.
After the game we met mom and Joey at five guys for my birthday dinner. Mom said five guys wasn’t as good as Culver’s, she’s wrong.
Today was a normal Sunday. Mom made roast beef and baked potatoes. Ben mad beef ribs. They were good, but the rub was a little overwhelming for me. Mom gave the relief society lesson and I helped her get it keynote on her iPad. I’m sure she did amazingly awesome, but she is currently obsessing over it.
That’s about all for now.I sure miss you kid, I’m immensely proud of you and I pray for you always. As always, I’m looking forward to tomorrow.
Love,
Pops
