Unreasonable Desires
Oh dang it’s late!
Oh hi Bakey,
At the last minute mom got that deer valley condo from her buddy, so we came up tonight. I have to work tomorrow so I’ll be driving down in the morning. We had grilled cheese sandwiches at home after church, and they had grilled cheese sandwiches at the free dinner here. I wasn’t that enthusiastic about coming because of work, but now that we’re here, it’s fun. You know how mom’s super power is making literally anything fun, I don’t know why I never remember that. The boys got in the hot tub, but the water was only 72° so they didn’t stay in long. Mom made us hot chocolate, it was yum. On the way up we dropped of some coconut cupcakes at grandmas. Uncle Tim was there, because he’s always there. It was snowing and raining on the way up, so I worried about your brothers driving up in mom’s car, but everything was fine.
I’ve been obsessed tonight with trading my 4Runner in, which would be a huge mistake. But I found an awesome (the word awesome is a word popularly used by 80s kids, so the usage is apt here because of the unreasonableness of my desire) Jeep Gladiator Rubicon with all the right mods that I may be able to swing. I fantasize about selling the little car and the trailer too, and getting a topper/ camper for adventures. Chance of me doing this, low, but it is possible. I’ll attach a pic.
I’ll go in reverse order for this week because most of the interesting stuff happened today and yesterday.
Yesterday was one of my desert adventures. I joined this new club, Lone Peak 4 wheel Club or something like that. I like it because for the most part I’m younger and skinnier than the other members (don’t ask mom’s opinion). But the real reason is because they’re older experienced guys, and they’re doing good adventures this year. Oh, and they’re really nice. We just went out to the Pony Express Trail where we often go. I didn’t decide to actually go till late Friday, because I didn’t really feel like washing mud all afternoon. But the pull of getting out was strong, and Ben was willing to go so we went. The road was much drier that I feared, but as we went on the smaller roads the mud came up. We wandered around for a while and we saw antelope herds bounding and cows grazing, but no wild horses. The only little challenge was coming up out of a muddy wash. The four jeeps in front of me made it easily enough, but when it came to my turn I stalled out and had to slide back down. Unlike the time in the muddy river I did not swear and no damage was done. I was a little flustered to take the next run up. I put it in four low, and thought I engaged the Rear locker. I gunned it and did make it, but not as well as I thought I should have. Turns out I pressed the traction control off button, which had no effect in 4 low. I need to remember to pause and think in those situations, but no harm was done, I learned, and my pride was only nicked. I did have to spend $12 bucks washing mud off, but that’s nothing compared to last time I did that.
The only other thing of note that happened this week was Thursday night when I went to the meeting to join that club. I met some Utah off road legends there including this guy who wrote an awesome guidebook to the San Rafael Swell. I never really want to go to stuff like that as being social is never something I search out, but I usually find that people are nice and welcoming, and I pretty easily transition into social George.
I’m on my second dose of those semaglutide shots for diabetes and weight loss, but I’ve felt no affects so far. I’ve found it disturbingly easy to give myself shots in the belly.
Well, I probably missed your lights out curfew, just know that I love you. I think I have meetings tomorrow until 3:30, but I’ll join the call as soon as I can.
Love you kid, hope your baptism happened.
