History In the Making
Oh hi my boy!
Well, we’re in the midst of history happening. As I told you last week Donald Trump was shot last week, he’s fine and back to his dastardly self. This afternoon, literally hours ago, Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential race. We’ve been watching the news since. Biden endorsed his VP, Camilla Harris to replace him, but no one is sure who will run against Trump. I wish every election was this interesting.
This week was much quieter than last week. We did go to see Bachman Turner Overdrive in concert last night. It was up in Layton at an amphitheater a little smaller than the Sandy Amphitheater. It was nice, the weather is still hot, the crowd was again old, really old. I don’t know how familiar you are with that group. But we knew all of their songs, they were a staple of the 70s. Their most famous songs are Taking Care of Business, You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet, and Roll On Down The Highway. They were also known as the Guess Who with many well known songs. It’s been fun going to all of these concerts, I hope the habit keeps growing for a while. We’re thinking of going to see John Fogerty, who was the main singer for Credence Clearwater Revival. And maybe the Doobie Brothers.
It’s still hot here, it’s made me lazy to do chores outside. This week I set up a bunch of traps and poison for the vole problem we’re having. I have no idea if it’s having any effect. I worry a little bit because that cute feral cat came by after I set all that stuff out. She’s really friendly and affectionate with us. I don’t think she’ll eat the poison, but I worry she might eat a poisoned vole.there’s also these hawks that fly overhead, I don’t want to harm them either.
I’ve also started a small wood working project — a stand for my records. I’m just using the old wood from our old dining room table. I started stripping the paint off yesterday. I also got up to change the oil on my 4Runner. I really enjoy doing that but I was a little nervous about since last time it needed changing I took it to Walmart because it was right before mom’s surgery. Wow that already seems long ago to me. Anyway, they kinda messed up moms Buick which was the first domino to fall towards trading for her new car. But by all signs they did a nice job and nothing was jacked up. I still have more maintenance to do, air filters, drive shaft lube, and tire rotation. I want to keep that vehicle running for as long as possible.
Speaking of records, Jacob and I ran some errands last week and we ended up going to the new Barns and Noble in Sandy. They closed the old one by target and opened a new one across the street from the mall. It’s a beautiful store that smells like fresh ink and paper, I love those smells. I bought the Stranger album on vinyl by Billy Joel. Jacob bought Billy Joel’s biography. We keep throwing money at Mr. Joel. The album sounds good. I don’t remember if I told you that I connected my turntable to the movie room stereo system or not. But I did and it sounds pretty good. I just need to get my streaming device set up now and hopefully I’ll be less tempted to by records.
This week is Pioneer Day, on Wednesday. It’s only remarkable because Spencer is coming home that day. It will be fun to be with the family. Mom has prohibited fireworks, so no fun planned there.
Well Joseph, this was a much shorter note than last week. I love you kid.
