The Execution

The crime? Having the audacity to seek shelter in our house, under our couches, and to run freely between our feet all while avoiding the poison bait and glue traps that had been set for you.

Oh hi my handsome boy, how are you?

Yes, Thursday morning mom got up early to study. When I got up for my walk mom luckily went  into the other room. Right then while I was tying my shoes that little guy ran right between my feet and darted under the couch by the kitchen. Well mom had been up for over an hour and I’m so glad that he didn’t do that to her. So at lunch I went to Home Depot and grabbed an armful of the most vicious traps and bait that I could find and set them up as soon as I got home. Well, you know the old saying “a watched pot never boils”? Same with mousetraps.but, Friday morning mom and I got up at about the same time and I went straight to the traps. Trap number one…empty. Trap number two…BINGO! I got dressed and took him outside to the trash can, trap and all. That little plastic trap with the sharp plastic teeth did its job. The little mouse head was tightly in its grip, and his little beady eyes were wide open. Dang, those little things are actually cute, not rat like at all. And truthfully, even though I’m glad it’s gone, I felt a little sad all day thinking of that little dead field mouse face looking up at me. I’m going to leave the other traps up for a few more days even though I’m fairly confident that he was the only one.

This week was a bye for both Utah and BYU. There were five upsets in the top 11, including Vanderbilt over Alabama. So both Utah and byu moved up. We’re 16, byu is 14. Right now it looks like the two best teams in the Big 12 are Iowa State and Texas Tech. BYU wants that recognition but nobody seems to want to give it to them. Nobody is going to discuss Utah other than when or if Cam Rising is going to play. I’m kinda sick of that question and so are the fans. In fact some are starting to call him Scam Rising. I think a lot of that feeling is because his NIL deal is rumored to be worth about $1.5 million. Ouch. They play Arizona State this Friday night and I haven’t paid enough attention to know who’s favored yet. It should be us.

This week was pretty standard, I went with the elders Tuesday night, mom had parent teacher conferences late Wednesday so you’re brothers and I went to the Lego store, barns and noble, and taco time. I bought the Beatles White album. Thursday night I finished grandma’s deck project by pressure washing all the drips off of the concrete deck. Friday night Jacob had his mission companion over for movies so I picked up the Pie and then went to the record store. I bought Who’s Next by the Who, one of my favorites and I’m listening to it right now.

During the week I got the idea that I wanted to go for a ride to see the fall colors, so I texted my siblings and your cousins and invited them. I was happily surprised because everyone came even though I planned a 7am meet up in Orem. We went over the squaw peak road, which is now called Kyvh Mountain. It was really dusty but otherwise beautiful. We were headed down in time to catch the morning session on the radio.

We got home and watched the rest of the morning session.  Between sessions your mom and I did our Saturday chores: Costco, gas, and car wash. We got home and watched/listened to afternoon session. Mom was given tickets to the evening session so we all changed and went. We grabbed burgers at Crown Burger which was fun. Then we left the car there and walked up to the conference center.

I’ve never been to a session there so it was neat to feel the energy and excitement of that many members of the church gathering for something like that. I’m always impressed with that facility, it has to be a top venue in the world of church buildings. The talks were great, especially Elder Bednar as I felt like he was counseling each of us individually. Mom was in a fun mood after so she bought us shakes before we went home.

Today was a classic Sunday conference day, complete with brunch at grandmas. It was good. Jordan brought his new girlfriend who looks exactly like his sisters, which is a little weird but she seems normal enough. Honestly, I moved very little today, but it’s been fun being home with your mom and brothers, it a rare thing these days. Dallas is playing Pittsburgh right now which is a classic match up, but I’m not paying much attention to it.

This week looks to be another standard week, which isn’t a bad thing. My boss is back from maternity leave, so I’ll need to adjust to that. It’s situations like that these potentially awkward companion pairings prepare you for in your professional life. Just gotta make the best of the situation sometimes.

Well my boy, I sure love you. Chat soon.
