Two Sundays

Oh hello elder!

Sooo….transfer or staying put? I look forward to hearing about it.

The news of this week is that your brothers are in Washington DC. I took Ben to the airport Tuesday afternoon and I took Jacob early Friday morning, we left at 3:15 in the morning, and I was tired all morning Friday. They did some cool stuff (I’ve been able too track Jacob, but not Ben). Ben seemed happy about how his presentation went. They sent a few pics which I will include here. I’ll let them tell you about their trip themselves though.

This week for me was much the same as last week. I didn’t hear from that job. I think they’re ghosting me, mom thinks they were busy. Mom has a track record of being smarter than I am, so I’ll keep hope alive for a while longer. I did have a new interview with a recruiter from another local company. I’m not sure how well I did, I felt unprepared, but I do think I answered the questions. She was just screening candidates anyway. I will let you know if I hear anything. I finally finished updating my portfolio, but I want to start it over from scratch as a website. I’m going to hit the job search hard again for the week, then I’ll enjoy being with your mom for her week off.

The most eventful thing this week was yesterday. With your brothers gone I got your mother to myself. But she made plans, plans that kind of made it feel like I had two sundays. Her friend Ashley invited us to her two sons baptisms, which was actually pretty spiritual. You mother is popular and well liked, so many ladies go out of their way to talk to her and it seems like they really admire her. I thought of you when the elders showed up. I was asked to stand in the circle for the confirmations, which I appreciated.

After I took your mom to lunch. Aunt Stella sent me $50 in her Christmas card so I didn’t feel too bad about it. I was going to take her to salt lake style Japanese food. But that place was closed between lunch and dinner. So I took her to another Salt Lake City restaurant, the Dodo. It was fun to be with your beautiful mother, it was a really great respite from my worries.

We went shopping at the big Salt Lake Costco, your mom really likes that place. I was a little stressed out about life as we were walking through those isles. A thought came to mind in my stress. The thought was to pray for something positive to happen this week. Thoughts like this don’t always come to me. I was taught to pray for things with Heavenly Fathers will, not mine. I also worry that they are driven by my fears or even greed to save money. But today I decided to fast again with that in mind. I’m still learning a lot about how faith works. I’ll let you know what happens.

After Costco, we did a little Christmas shopping, came home and watched corny mom Christmas movies.

Today we had an interesting sacrament meeting. It was high council week for speakers. Instead of a high councilman there was a lady from the stake primary presidency and her recently returned missionary daughter. Mom and I were sitting in the choir seats because mom was subbing for Ben leading the music. The daughter spoke first, her first sentence was an announcement that she had been an STL on her mission then she went on to tell us all the things she would teach the sisters in her mission…I sorta checked out after that. Then when the stake lady got up she spoke for about seven minutes mostly instructing us on how to read the scriptures, then gave us her testimony about her great grandfather David whitmer or someone. She had brought a bunch of primary kids from her ward to sing for us, but the piano player was late so she didn’t know what to do. So she stumbled along for a while, asked if anyone could play, sister Pratt volunteered but was kinda blown off, then she started to play the song on her cell phone, lyrics and all. That really confused the primary kids. They got their composure together and started to sing. That’s when the piano player finally showed up. Which was actually fairly impressive because she picked up the piano right on time with the second verse. Wait, but that’s not all. After all that there was more than five minutes left, so bishop started calling random people up to bear their testimonies. Of course that put the congregation on edge. I was just glad that the elders didn’t have any investigators there. That would have been rough for them.

Mom made me an omelette, waffles, and bacon to break our fast, delicious! Its weird to be alone with her on a Sunday, nice weird. I’ll be leaving to pick up Ben in a little while, Jacob doesn’t get in till midnight, so I might make Ben get him.

So we’ll talk soon and know that I love you,

Pops
