Green rolls

Good Sunday evening Benjamin!

Without going into a detailed “banquet“ discussion, we just got through with dinner. Mom made a traditional st. Patrick’s day meal with roast (not corned) beef, cabbage, Yukon gold potatoes and green rolls. We had ice cream floats for dessert. Well, sorry for the detail, but we all missed you as we gorged on it.

This week in sports: the Jazz slid to 8th, but are now back in 6th. Gail Miller made a great impression on the NBA by denouncing racist behavior at Jazz games and banning two fans, the one from Monday’s game and one from last years play-off’s, for life. Last night, the Jazz and the Nets players wore solidarity t-shirts and gathered before the game. I can help but to think think the influence and training we get in church contributed to the high-level way that she presented herself. The Utes lost to Oregon in the first round of the PAC 12 tourney, and Oregon went on to win the tournament over Arizona State an Washington. Pffft. Utah state won the mountain west tournament and got an 8th seed in the NCAA, they’ll play Washington. I’m not sure if they have announced the NIT yet, but I’m not holding my breath. (They did, both the Utes and BYU’s seasons are over, no invitations for either).

Yesterday we were bored, so we went to the LandCruiser museum. It’s a museum in downtown salt Lake where Greg Miller, the son of Larry Miller has collected almost every model of every Toyota Land Cruiser ever built. My favorite is a 1978 blue and white fj55 identical the one my dad bought brand new in 1978. That’s what started all the desert off-road fun for the Rivera boys. We had so many adventures in that, I drove it so much. Dad finally sold it when it rusted out faster than he could keep up with it. It’s time to get out again.

Yesterday was the first day it was warm enough to work outside all winter. I installed a heavy duty hinge for my spare tire that I bought used off of KSL last year. It came with a mount for a high lift jack and a gas can. I’ll look full on overlander now. But first I’ll need a glass can.

Tonight was Stake youth standards night. The had a guest speaker that, well, if I told you what I thought, mom would hurt me. Let’s just say that you’re brothers were obedient good sports about it.

I fast and pray every Sunday Ben. For aunt Patti usually, but I have to admit that today I was a bit selfish in my prayers and asked for expedience in finding a job. I received the distinct answer that when Heavenly Father grants the blessing, it will be the right time, and the right thing. I have faith in that Benjamin. I get anxious, scared and impatient sometimes. But I know we’ll be okay. I do hope it’s sooner than later though.

Well, I love you kid, more than you’ll ever know until you have a great kid of your own. I sure look forward to hearing from you tomorrow. We don’t have an extravagant night out with the Jazz planned like last week, so call if you can, text at will, and we’ll look forward to your letter.
