The season of repairs

 Howdy Benjer!

Well, the time’s changed, the leaves are falling, the weather is beautiful and football, real football, starts this week. I always love the day after Halloween. I love getting all the stuff down and just letting it be autumn.

This season also seems to be the season of stuff getting busted. A couple of weeks ago the microwave finally stopped working. It had been dying on-and-off for a while. It finally just stopped working all together. Then last week I was starting to patch up the walls in the bedrooms downstairs. I went into the utility room to grab the wall putty and found the whole floor wet. The water heater was leaking pretty bad from the bottom. As you know, plumbing is not my favorite. Grandma had to replace hers a few months ago and it cost he a lot. As you also know, I’m pretty cheap, which may be a greater motivator for me than fear of plumbing. So your brothers and I hauled off to the Home Depot and chose the cheapest 50 gallon tank they had. By the time we got home it was pretty late, so a suffered a fitful night of sleep wondering if the thing would burst, till I could fix it after work. I think because we have a newer house, with standardized fittings, all the trepidation was wasted. I had it done in less than two hours. Wonder what will go out next. And no, I’m not going to switch professions to plumber, though it’s probably more lucrative and respected than my current profession.

BYU won again to western Kentucky...I think no witty insult needed here. They are now ranked 9th, my gosh.

We got new neighbors in the Allen’s house, I haven’t met them yet, I have met their two large dogs who charged me while I was mowing the lawn. They also left a giant turd in our backyard, so glad to meet you.

Your cousin Cecily has a pretty major surgery this Wednesday, so that’s what we fasted for today.

We had our first online church today. It was okay. I like still having the sacrament at home. Online Sunday school was a bit awkward. Brother Poulsen did do a nice job with his lesson though. I find myself missing having a calling, which I must admit, is kind of surprising to me. I’m also missing the temple, which is not as surprising.

Some quick updates: speakers, the cabinets are all roughed in, next step, build the crossovers. Jeep, hopefully get good news from State Farm tomorrow. Family room trim, not much. Basement prep, I’ll have the lego room ready for you this week, hopefully Jacob’s room too, maybe the tiny room if I’m productive.

Well, this letter has run its course. I’m trying hard not to signal my eagerness for your return. I wonder what these last weeks are like for you. I was transferred my last month, so I had no real expectations. My goal was just to go out working, or in my case, tracting. I’m not sure how much faith was demonstrated in that last month, but it was better than some.

Mom forwarded an email to you regarding reinstatement at the U. I didn’t really read it, but if there’s anything I can do to help you, I will do it happily.

Love you kid,

Pops
