Big Snow
Oh hi Bakey!
How was your freaking week? I’ve been wondering about your new companion and all of your teaching people.
The big news this week around here was the snowstorm. It was, as mom calls me, a big one. Tuesday all day the news and radio were telling everyone how enormous it was going to be, but nothing happened. Then about 3 or 4 it started raining. I was thinking it would be okay until Joe got off work. But by then it had already snowed several inches. But that little white car, as much as I hate it, does pretty well in the snow, and so far, joes been a safe driver in the weather. By that night we had received texts from both Jordan school district and the U of U about classes being remote.
It snowed pretty hard all night. I’d peek out when I’d get up to pee and the snow was moving sideways. By the time we got up in the morning there was over a foot and even deeper drifts. I was glad nobody had to go anywhere. Mom did her parent teacher conferences online, and Joey and Ben did their schoolwork online too. After a while Joe called grandma to see if anyone had shoveled her snow. Shockingly none of your selfless relatives had gotten around to it yet. They had about the same amount of snow up there as we did. Five minutes after we got home uncle Tim texted thanking us, we may have deprived him of a free lunch.
Grandma was a little stressed out because they had transferred grandpa to a rehab center and the roads were too bad for her to go visit. For some reason your cousin Rebecca and your dear aunt Susan were giving grandma pressure and stress over not going. Sometimes your mom’s ignorant relatives bug the crap out of me in how they treat your grandmother.
That night i suggested that we change the PQ activity from some vapid way of entertaining the boys to snow shoveling around the ward. I was surprised at the good turnout and even more surprised at how many driveways and sidewalks we did. Less surprised at which boys spent most of their time leaning on their shovels. I have to admit, I was pretty tired that night and a little sore the next day.
I guess the snow was deepest in Tooele, Magna, and West Jordan. As such, school was canceled for mom and Joey again on Thursday. The school buses at the school district were still half buried and some of the schools down there had high drifts that needed heavy machinery to dig them out. I heard on the news that some of the houses in Suncrest above Draper had drifts over their roofs, causing snow to blow in through the attic vents leading to it actually snowing inside the houses through vents and light fixtures. Pretty awesome storm I’d say.
Mom had Friday of so she treated me to a six am endowment session at the Jordan river temple. They made significant changes to the endowment film, making it much more explanatory. I must admit though, at six am my eyes were heavy and I twitched myself out of dozing more than once.
Friday night mom and I went to dinner with the Kooymans from our ward. We went to longhorn steakhouse. It was good, we had fun, they are really nice people.
Saturday was normal: shopping, haircut, mall, music store with Ben, lunch with Joey. It was fun. Mom and Ben bought a pasta machine at the mall. Ben bought a cowbell at the music store, we went to La Fountain for lunch. That night we went to the last Utes home game. The Utes have settled into a late season slump. They’ve lost four or five games in a row. They’re better than last year but still not good. No chance of going to the tournament unless they win the PAC12 tournament, which is very unlikely. Their record is currently 17-13, which is virtually the same as the vastly superior BYU Cougars at 17-14. Speaking of which, byu football is the lowest ranked football team in the big 12. Yet byu fans are feeling all superior because the PAC12 is struggling with a media deal. Which is unfortunate but far from the end of the world for the Utes. There are rumors that Oregon and Washington may still go to the big10. I do think, however, that most of those rumors are just from people trying to get hits on social media. The PAC12 was really great this year, and the Utes were the champs, sorry coug fans.
Today has been quite. Mom and you brothers made homemade pasta noodles with the new toy with Alfredo and steak. A disaster was narrowly averted when the glass lid of the big frying pad shattered all over the pasta and Alfredo. Luckily, mom hadn’t put the steak in yet and there was enough pasta to make another batch of Alfredo. It was pretty freaking good. This afternoon we’re just watching Netflix and eating cookies. My diet has stalled.
Well, I love you kid, hopefully you can write tomorrow. Chat soon.
