Spring Game
Oh good evening Elder Rivera,
So, will you stay or will you go? Maybe you can drop us a note in the morning telling us about transfer. Or maybe that’s next week. Your old dad can’t quite remember.
Well, around here the weather has become really nice, though it’s going to get cold again tomorrow.
Time seems to be going fast even if not much is happening. This has been an expensive last month or so so I’m hoping things on that end ease up a little bit. The car, mom’s medicine, the washer and dryer, and now taxes. I’m glad we have the money though, and recently having paid off mom’s car will help too, and we’re doing fine.
This week your mother and I were set apart as temple workers at the Jordan River Temple. It was a spiritual experience and I really appreciated the blessing I got during the setting apart. We also got a mini tour of the behind the scenes of the temple. We saw bishop Marchant there who was also being set apart that night too. I’m not going to lie about being nervous to try to memorize all of those ordinances, but I am looking forward to learning and being close to those blessings. Your mom and I were kind of hoping that it would be a night together, but I think we’ll be pretty independent of each other. We should be pros by the time you get home.
Your mom is making good progress. She’s starting to get bored and trying to do some very light exercise. But she did have a bit of a tired day yesterday, which her doctor told her that she would. Today she was much more herself. Tuesday she’s going to physical therapy in the morning.
Not a lot of fun around here this week. Highlights for me consist of mowing the lawn on Tuesday, several nights spent ripping out the small overgrown garden in front of the house, and doing taxes. Pulling the stuff out from the garden was tedious, but pulling the roots of the bushes out, using my winch again, doesn’t get old. I know, simple minded simple fun. I’ve asked mom to choose a small tree and some fancy plants for it. I need to fix the sprinklers first and the downspout on that side is completely clogged, I’m not cure how to fix that.
Saturday morning we got up earlyish to go clean out grandma’s garage and shed to put the stuff on the curb for Sandy City to pick up. Uncle Tim had put out a call for everyone to come and haul stuff out and promised that grandma would feed them, what a saint. It was supposed to start at 10 but I hate starting late on Saturdays and we wanted to go to the Spring Game at the U so we changed the time to 8. I was surprised that Mark and Steven were there when we got there, but they were sitting in the living room and not working. I put your brothers to work immediately and I started clearing of the work benches. We were done after a little over an hour and the pile out front was big. We left before aunt Lithia brought the food. As we were leaving some guys came by with a giant trailer and made the pile noticeably smaller. They took everything with any metal or mechanical properties. I kind of admire that kind of entrepreneurial a lot, but have no idea how they turn a profit at all. Is the value in that junk? Do they rebuild or refurbish it anyway? To they export it? Is it just scrap metal value? I’d be curious to find out. I told grandma we’d go over Monday or Tuesday after the rest is hauled away and sweep up anything that’s left over.
We got to the spring game right as the gates opened. There was a Muss flag football game before the real game, I really paid little attention to it. The day was glorious and I felt content just soaking up the sun. The real game was more fun than most spring games of late. Mostly in anticipation of Cam Risings return. He did not disappoint and played for three series, finishing each with a TD. Issac Wilson also had a great game. His brother has made it a little tougher for me to root for him, but his kinda made a believer out of me. It funny to think that he should still be in high school. Four more months to the season. Also, the schedule is not as impressive without teams like USC, Oregon, or Washington on it. I’m convinced that your cousins think that BYU is more than enough compensation for those three, but I don’t. On the way home we stopped at Hires for lunch, it hit the spot.
Last night and today we streamed Stake Conference. Dozing on our couch is far superior to dozing on the metal folding chairs in the gym. Mom will scold me for that last sentence.
We made some fun plans this week that might not make you homesick. We bought tickets to go see the Rolling Stone’s in las Vegas in May. Mom isn’t going to to the concert but she will be coming down with us. One thing that might make you a little homesick is that I got tickets to go see Queen in June. Well, fake Queen, and it’s at the Sandy Amphitheater by grandmas. She actually said she’d like to come so I need to buy an extra ticket. We’re also talking about going to see Billy Joel in Denver in July. But I need to recover a little financially before I make that commitment. I figure that will at least annoy you if not make you downright homesick. If we do it, it will probably be our main vacation, and I’ll still make your brothers buy their own tickets. Speaking of Billy Joel, his concert was on tv tonight. It’s recorded so we’ll watch it later when Jacob gets home. He went with Jordan tonight to pick up marks step daughter and your step cousin Marin because mark was too freaking lazy. We went to go visit grandma tonight and that news annoyed her. She’s doing well tonight even though she’s starting another round of chemotherapy this week.
Well, that’s about it for now. Hopefully we’ll hear at least a little from you tomorrow. I hope you get a new adventure. I really love you kid and I really was missing you this week. I know that you are doing what you are supposed to be doing right now and that you are growing stronger and closer to your Father in Heaven.
