Eagles Win! (Like I care)
Well, the house just emptied out from the superbowl party. We had a full house as usual. The eagles destroyed the chiefs 40-22. But it wasn’t that close. The eagles defense was dominant. It seemed like a really long game. Mom and grandma set a giant spread with pulled pork sandwiches. We were going to use the smoker but I couldn’t start it and Ben was gone. So mom put them in the oven at six this morning.
This week was another week of the job search. I finally heard back from the company that I was hoping to get an interview with, late Friday afternoon. It’s positive, they sent a bunch of questions that they want me to answer, and I feel confident that I can answer them well. I’ll send it back tomorrow. I found a couple of other jobs that I may be a good fit for that are local. I hope to hear back from them too. I fill out a ton of applications for remote jobs, but those never turn into anything.
The big event of the week was Ben’s visit to Yale. He’s been pretty low-key about it, but when he called Friday night he was pretty excited. On his Saturday call he was even more so. I’ll let him tell you about it, but he said that if he gets an offer he’s taking it. I get the feeling that he’s anxious about not hearing from the other schools. I think he’ll hear from several. I just hope the best for him, and you and Jacob too.
This week I went over to grandmas house to clean her tub drain that uncle David left. Your brothers had tried to clear it last Saturday but failed. So I went on Tuesday to remove the drain and failed even harder. I bought a specific tool that worked a little too well. I was turning it out and felt a little pop. After that it would rotate and not loosen…oh crap. Sure enough I turned the water on for a sec, run downstairs, and could see it leaking from the ceiling in the laundry room. As Kip would say, “DANG IT!” So I went and fessed up to grandma. We called your cousin Tyler (no, not that Tyler), the one that’s married to your cousin Heidi. He’s learning plumbing for his trade. He thought he’d be able to fix it. So Thursday I went over to grandmas to cut a chunk out of the ceiling to see if we could access the pipe. That was easy enough to find. Saturday morning I met Tyler there and we got to work. There were a few minor complications, but we got it figured out. I got to know that kid a little better and he was quite pleasant to work with. Grandma bought us a giant bag of McDonald which was a treat.
I made a little progress on my guitar. I got two panels for the body jointed, glued and smoothed out on the planer. I have it just under 1 1/2 inches in thickness. Let me tell you, it’s going to be a heavy guitar. I haven’t glued the two half’s together yet because I’m debating making the body thinner to save weight, but then again, I’m not really planning on playing it. When I researched oak guitars most people say that oak is too heavy and the grain is too open. The only famous oak guitar is Brian May’s red guitar. He made it out of the family fireplace mantle. So I think I’m in good company. It’s fun to be working with my tools again. We should make something together when you get home.
This week mom is going to St. George on Wednesday for a work trip, so us boys will be on our own. I’ll miss her. I was thinking about going on a Jeep club trip this weekend, but it’s supposed to rain down there all week including when we’re supposed to be there. So I’m not sure how excited I am to go.
Well, that’s about all that comes to mind for this week. I’m going to go pickup Ben in a few minutes.
I love you kid, can’t wait to hear from you tomorrow,
Pops
