Happy freaking Pioneer Day!

Happy freaking Pioneer Day Ben!

Today’s the day we celebrate hundreds of unwanted, unwelcome, illegal immigrants coming to a new country with the full internet of claiming resources and never leaving. Now most of their descendants align themselves with a political agenda that is devoid of charity for those looking to improve their situation in this country. Sorry for the rant.

Well, on the job front, I had a pretty good phone interview today with a company in slc. It’s a pr agency branching into marketing. We’ll see where this goes. I feel like a spurned lover with the outcome of the last batch of interviews, I need to quit doing that. This isn’t that level of job (turns out, neither was that one), but I have to be open to anything, and not discount it. It did get me out of the funk I was in, and that in and of itself is a huge blessing.

Your cousin Artie is trying to convince me to start my own business. He has the best intentions. In fact, we’re going to go to some entrepreneur workshop tomorrow together. I’m mostly going to spend time with Artie, and to open my new horizons. I’ve even started working on my brand again. I’’l send you some comps when I get them to the point that I'm happy with them. But once again, I’m mostly going to be open to new possibilities.

Tonight we had a Pioneer Day celebration for the ages. I suggested we grill up some wieners and have everyone bring sparklers, just because being with family brings me so much comfort. Then, as usual, grandma and your mother got together and it got out of hand. We had brisket, deviled eggs, potato salad, corn on the cob, ice cream, soda...you know I could keep going. The usual suspects attended, the regular ones on mom’s side, and the bergs on mine. It was so fun. As the sun went down, I lit a fire in grandmas fire pit in the driveway for s’mores, then we had a fireworks show. Everyone supplied an aerial. Grandma bought a huge box. We had our own show that rivaled the upper neighborhood. Luckily, with the construction across the street, we avoided burning down the field. Though one of the fireworks did explode, which was nearly a repeat of last year. There is a scorch mark on the garage. Oh, and someone in the upper neighborhood did light their backyard on fire, even the fire department showed up, lights, sirens and all. My ears are still ringing. Luckily, we avoided hitting grandpa four times...FOUR TIMES!!!

It’s late now, everybody has showered except for me. Were going to read a few scriptures and go to bed. (Although, as of 11:51 pm, you’re brothers are begging to stay up to watch It’s a mad, mad, mad, mad world. You mom has declined to relent.)

Love

Pops

P.S. if you have the thought, maybe you could send your cousin Spencer some encouragement regarding mission service. Nothing overt. The only reason I make the request is that your aunt Selena is starting to sense some reluctance in the form of fear on his part. She’s not really worried, but she just thinks it would be better for him not to wait.
