Charlie Brewer

 Oh hi Bakey,

I hope this morning finds a little more hope inside of you. You’ve been pretty resilient so far on this mission, I don’t expect that to change. I do want to add to or reiterate just one point from my note last night. The more you forget yourself and serve others, the happier you will be. Find a way to displace a fear, disappointment, or anxiety by thinking of, doing something for, or taking someone else’s burdens. I’m a jerk with your mom when I’m only thinking of myself, but I’m pretty happy, and pretty amazed that she married me when I think of her first.

As I see you go through all of this, I’m pretty sure that this is what you are supposed to learn from these trials. You display hope and happiness when you talk of the people of your area. You seem scared and frustrated when you think of yourself.

Okay, enough of that.

I will start out the normal part of the letter with something you’ll find amusing. In the opening minutes of the Liberty Flames first game of the season, our boy Charlie Brewer broke his hand. I’m not saying that to make light of him, but since leaving Baylor his life has progressively gotten worse. I almost feel sorry for him.

Just when you thought that the Utes night couldn’t have gotten worse, their plane broke down on the runway. They were stuck on it for four hours, then they were stuck in the little Gainesville airport for the rest of the night. The university of Florida was going to get them accommodations, I’m not even sure if they’re home yet. What a nightmare.

Yesterday was all about the game. Mom and I did our shopping in the morning, Ben and I went to go see top gun in the afternoon, it’s fun to be with your brother. We went to Artie’s for the game with all of my cousins. It was fun, until the very last play. Two heartbreakers in a row, eight months apart.

When we got home we weren’t really tired, so we watched the second episode of the Rings of Power. I would call it interesting, it could end up being good. Ben did go on several rants about it being non canonical in several respects. I was waiting for the classic nerd response, “if I had written it…” but he is still several levels of cool above your uncle so I’m probably under estimating him.

Speaking of Ben. Brother Kooyman says he looks like Camron Rising, brother Miller says he looks like kylo ren. That’s the thanks poor Ben gets for teaching elders quorum.

It’s freaking hot here this week, like in the 100s hot. And mom and I both have colds.

The big adventure for the week was Wednesday night. The priests had planned a walk to jcw in lehi, I was ready to flake out because Joey had to work. But I went because I suspected the other leaders would flake and I didn’t want to leave the bishop hanging. Sure enough I show up and it’s just me and seven boys. I never thought that many boys would show up. After about ten minutes I get a call from bishop telling me that his car had broken down on the way back from dropping off their other car at jcw for the ride home. So i asked the boys to call their dads to get one to help (as you know, adults should never be alone with the youth as per the hand book) They were all busy, mostly with football practice. (The first thing that came to mind was that youth football never sent a kid on a mission). Anyway, in desperation I called mom to ask Ben to come help. I knew he’d be mad, but I also know he’s obedient. So we headed of and Ben met us at the corner, his glare burnt the back of my skull. But off we went. It was far, it was super hot. I decided to walk as fast as I could with no stops. I was surprised that for the most part the boys never caught up with me. Ben did walk much faster than me but I wasn’t too far behind. At on point the bridge crosses the river as it nears thanksgiving point. Lincoln carver and the Miller kid jumped in the river from the bridge. I acted unimpressed, even though it looked fun. They wanted me to video it but I told them I wasn’t no proof of my approval in case they drowned, they didn’t think that was super funny. We waited at jcw for mom and bishop to come get us. Ben just sat there and glared into space. One of the boys asked him a question and ben was pretty rude, so when mom came, I just sent them home.

Now we’re watching SheHulk. You’re not missing anything.

Sorry for the boring letter, and the lecture. I hope we talk tomorrow. Message me if you have a rough idea if and when you can call. Mom’s going to breakfast with her buddies and then she wants to go see what her Buick is worth as a trade in.

Jacob, just believe in yourself and leave your doubts behind. That’s not to say you can’t vent to me, you can anytime and I’ll do my all to cheer you up. But you got this, your doing it, you’ll continue to do it, and in the end, you’ll succeed. Man do I love you kid.
