“Now don’t eat too much girls.”

Oh hi Mr. Joe. Well, another week gone by eh? I guess the big change for this week was that it was mom’s first week home. She’s a super pleasant distraction I must say. Last Monday I had a one way phone interview. I had one minute each to answer three questions. At the time I thought I did okay, but as the week passed and I didn’t hear anything back I fear a biffed it. I dunno, but I hope I hear something this week, but my hopes wane. I also had a little freelance this week, but I could use more.

It was really hot most of the week, but today we had a nice cooling off and it stayed in the high 60s. (If I’ve got the weather in the second paragraph, then that means it was a pretty quiet week.)

I guess the biggest thing of the boring week was that I started on the upstairs bathroom. On Thursday evening I ripped out the old vanity, the baseboards, and the window sill (all water damaged). I also pulled the mirror down which was sketchy because I didn’t want to shatter it and get cut to shreds. So I put crisscross tape all over it, then, as I saw on YouTube, I drove wooden shims all around. These mirrors are mounted directly to the painted wall by globs of glue, but the shim trick works and I got it down intact and blood free. On Friday afternoon I painted the ceiling white and then took all the stuff I pulled out because brother Pratt wanted to borrow the trailer. I must admit, it was very satisfying to throw the sink bowl and to see it smash on impact. For some reason, the mirror was less satisfying to break.

Friday night I went to the temple and it was nice to see mom guiding people to the veil. When I see her in those situations it’s always I tiny surprise that she is my wife. Grandma took your brothers to dinner while I was at the temple and we watched 28 Days Later, a zombie movie, which was entertaining if not great.

Saturday your mom and I got up to go to Target to get some wallpaper, yes, your mom and I are going fancy on that bathroom. She’s going to be picky about when you get home, consider yourself warned. We also did our grocery shopping.

After we got home I started unboxing the new vanity that we bought last year. It’s been cluttering up my side of the garage since then. It was packaged well, it’s going to fill several trash cans at least. Then it was time to meet aunt Stella and uncle Temmy for lunch. They wanted to take everybody that helped them while aunt Stella was recovering from her surgery. So it was the Bergs and Patti and Artie, plus her neighbor that was always with her at the doctor and ER. It was really nice to spend time with them and to be all together. On the way out of the restaurant, I was the last one walking out after my uncle Temmy. As we passed this table with two young ladies having lunch, he stopped and kindly advised, “Now don’t eat too much girls!” Well, they replied kindly if not confused by why a complete stranger would say something like that. For my part, I looked the other way and tried my hardest to pretend to be oblivious. By the time we got outside though, Jacob could read my face but I wouldn’t talk until we got in the car. When I told what happened, the whole car erupted into laughter and we almost couldn’t catch our breath.

We got home and I got back to work on the vanity. That thing was heavy, substantially heavier than the old one, which I hope means it’s better quality than the original. It took the whole family, two dollys, and the hand truck to get it in the house. It’s a few inches longer than the old one, so it crowds the toilet a tad. It’s not completely in yet, we’re planning the backsplash and stuff. I hope to make faster progress on this than I did on our bedroom.

Today was a normal Sunday. Mom made Navajo tacos for dinner. We took a drive up to Silver Lake and it was really pretty up there. Your brothers complain and I get the giggles walking behind them and mom because they sound like grumpy old men. We stopped to see grandma on the way home. I took notice today of the feeling of her house. There is a literal safe, comfortable, warm, happy feeling there that is unique to her house.

Well, that’s the story for the week kid. Love you and talk soon.
