First Man
January 20, 2019
Dear BGR,
Three days eh? You’ve sure been on my mind kid. Mom got a call on Thursday saying you had a package to pick up. So we drove down to Provo to grab it. I told mom to keep it sealed, but your brothers wanted to raid it, sorry. All they kept was the presents they sent you. Mom put the rest away. Sonic was having 50¢ corn dogs, so we stopped and got a dozen, we probably could have eaten more. We did decide that sonic had the best tots though. So of course we drove past the MTC. This time Jacob saw “you”. It was in the South east high rise, about on the third floor. I know he would love to see yo for real.
Yesterday was a pretty quiet Saturday. Mom put aside a whole bunch of clothes for the DI. I swear she almost came to tears when she threw in your tattered old suite. I think we got our money’s worth out of that. Mom’s big score from there was a giant shoe rack. Old people are really easy to please. I painted part of the basement hallway. As you can see, there is not much of excitement that you are really missing out on. Sometimes though, the mundane is comforting.
Today was another busy church day. Joseph was interviewed by the bishop to advance to Teacher. They want jacob to perform the ordination. Jacob is less than enthusiastic. We went to grandmas for dinner tonight, she made her delicious ribs. She really misses you. Tonight the Coopers came over for movies. We watched First Man, of course we thought of you. Jacob liked it even better this time. In an effort to assess accuracy, we watched Wallace and Grommet A grand Day out afterwards. Not surprisingly, they tell different sides of the story with equal accuracy.
We canceled our own day out tomorrow. I got three severe winter storm warnings for tomorrow. If we were going with my real jeep buddies, it would have been even more of a reason to go. But with this bunch, I wasn’t too excited to be the only experienced keeper there. Remember uncle Aaron almost rolling down Hardscrabble on the White Rim? He still hasn’t fixed the 4 wheel drive, and he has warn tires and shocks. My buddy Doug is terrified of the snow. We’ll probably just end up going to lunch or something. I do hope that it dumps really hard now that we canceled though.
I wasn’t going to tell you this because there really isn’t anything to tell. But yesterday, I got a call from Mr. Rip Mason. He’s heading up a capital investment firm and may want some help on a big project. It sounded more like a consulting gig than a job, so I’d really have to think about it before I committed to anything. I have no intentions of moving, so don’t worry about that. I’d probably need to travel a bit if anything were to materialize. Honestly though, for right now, I’m just taking it as a boost to the old self-esteem that he even called me. I’ll keep you updated, but I don’t expect to hear back from him for a month or two.
One benefit to canceling tomorrow’s trip is that I can be within service to watch for your letter.
We’ve really been praying for you extra this week with your big transition coming up. Keep us posted as you can with as much detail as you can bear. Pictures are much appreciated too. Also, when you call, call me, then I can try to call in mom and your brothers too. My number, in case it has slipped that vast memory of yours is 801-703-6784.
With much affection,
Pops
