Escape!
Dear BGR,
Remember the last line in the last scene from Finding Nemo? They make a plan, cunningly execute it and, through a combination of luck and sheer determination pull it off to perfection...except for one small detail. The didn’t plan on how they were going to get out of the baggies.
Well, I’d been mulling a plan in my head to get out of the house for a couple of days for spring break. Everything South was booked, crowded or expensive. So I decided to jig when everyone else was jagging. Yellowstone! I hear it’s beautiful in the spring, snowy, full of wildlife, off-season rates...genius! Except for while it is open year round, the roads are not. I found this out as I was checking into our hotel. Grrr!
We came to West Yellowstone Montana, it had the best rates. It was closest to the classic touristy venues like Old Faithful etc. We’ll be here through Friday. The good news is that this entrance opens Friday, so we can make a day of it and get home late. The other good news is that the North entrance is open now. But it’s three-plus hours from here. What the heck, we’ll go anyway and make a long day of it.
We got here about an hour ago. We’re staying at a Best Western motel. It’s clean, looks like it has a decent pool. Your brothers are swimming now, before diner. I’ve heard the phrase “If Ben was here...” about a dozen times in the 30 minutes we’ve been here. Oh, now some other kids are coming, so looks like it’s dinner time. I’ll finish this later.
——————-
So the only place open in this off-season is McDonald’s...need say no more. We’ve decided to get up early and head over to the north entrance tomorrow.
We started to watch the Jazz game two vs Huston, but they’re now down 20, still in the first, so we turned it off.
——————-
We went swimming again to avoid the frustration of the Jazz game, they ended up losing by 20. To bad they tanked so bad in the first quarter, the could have been in it.
In other news, I got an automated email response from ldsbc saying thanks for applying etc. etc. so no, didn’t get that job. I’m sorry to say that that news was fairly discouraging, mom felt it too. I just trust that there is be something better for me. At least I think that’s how faith works.
I’m wondering how your new companion is. Your first transfer in the field and all. I assume you’re no longer considered a trainee since your trainer has moved on. I hope the adjustment will go smoothly for you. Tell us anything you can about him and the changes you are experiencing. I wonder if he’s much further along in his language than you are. We continue to pray for those you teach, and that you can find more, and of course for you and your health and safety.
I’m going to send this now. I’ll send you another tomorrow if we don’t get back too late. Hopefully with pictures.
Love
Pops
