Midway and the Mandelorian
Oh hi Elder Rivera!
Mom and I are watching dumbo, on Disney +, you’re brothers are at young men’s.. when they come home we’ll watch the Mandalorian. I think we’ll replace our Netflix subscription with this.

Ok, the mandalorian was good, very much in the western genre. In fact, it had all the western tropes from breaking in a horse (a weird stubby bipedal no necked t-Rex thing), to the hero never taking off his hat...er helmet. If the exact same show was a traditional western, you’re brothers would have mocked me. But as it’s Star Wars, they loved it.
Speaking of loved it. Last night for $5 movie night we went to go see Midway, the ww2 movie about the battle of midway following the attack on Pearl Harbor. I was really anticipating this movie, but I was afraid that it would be a mess like the Pearl Harbor movie from the early 2000s. It was a very traditional ww2 movie that to my novice recollections of events seemed pretty accurate. The characters, based on real people, were more believable than I would have thought. And while it was all CG and green screen, it was not so in a distracting way at all. The battle scenes were intense, so close to my visualization of the stories I’ve read. It was by far the best movie I’ve seen in the year since you’ve been gone. I look forward to watching it with you next year, I think you’ll like it.
Mom got her car back today. It looks really good. Honestly, the wrecked side looks better than the original side, and you know how well mom takes care of her car.
Jacob reminded me tonight that it was one year ago that he, Joe, and Jordan were in super bad trouble for merely getting the giggles. They’re still a little uncomfortable around president McMullen. Serves those dorks right.
It was announced in the news today that the Utes basketball team had the 5th best recruiting class for next year in the country, and the best in the PAC-12. I sure hope we get enough guys sticking around to put a team together next year and the year after. We’re going to go see them play Wisconsin Friday night. The Saturday the football team plays UCLA. These are the salad days for sports. Even the jazz are coming on. I’m liking this team so far, and once Connelly gets the system down, they’l be even better.
Work is going well. I’m feeling more settled there. My staff is coming around, though every time I start a new job I miss my Neways staff. They were awesome. I’m feeling more comfortable with my boss and the whole department. I even feel like I’m getting into a routine, which can be good and not so good. I have decided that I am going to take the position of expert in everything, but I’m also not going to bluff. I suspect my experience gives me more knowledge than even I’m sure of. People seem to want that experience and confidence, and I believe I can supply it.
Im planning our spring adventure. Not the mom adventure but the dad/jeep adventure. I want to go back to Death Valley, only this time stay in our trailer and not the atomic inn. I would like to see Ryolite again, go to the racetrack. The crater, and do Titus canyon. I’ll keep you posted and send you a t-shirt. I’ve visualized some in my head already. It will probably be in late March or early April. As you know, for me, half the fun is planning and research, so I may as well start now.
Well, lyity. Keep being awesome my boy. I hope you know how much I love, admire, and respect you for your commitment and service to your Heavenly Father.
