I never thought I could write a whole letter on gardening
Oh hi kid,
It was good hearing from you today.
This week I’ve felt a little more normal workin from home. I feel pretty dumb with all these cars that we don’t drive. I really wonder how long this will last. I hop for your sake we’ll find some normalcy. I know you’re making the best of it, but it’s got to be hard being in your apartment.
I think we told you of all the mundane stuff we’re up to on our call. Life is pretty good though. I’m guessing we’ll look back on it with fondness. It’s been fun being home, including church services. I do miss the family though. I had about all I could take of having everyone over through the holidays and super bowl, but now I look forward to a celebratory get together at some point. I honestly wonder if we’ll be able to do it for your homecoming, even in November.
Yesterday we worked on the driveway garden. You know the one with the giant rock and that out of control ugly tree that makes it unnecessarily difficult to park my trailer? Well, throughout the late winter I slowly pruned that tree back to its curly trunk and a few whiskey dangling branches. I even chopped down the support tree, because that was the most hideous tree I had eve seen. My original hope was that it would all die out so I could fill that area with cement. I’ve even been trying to give the rock away to the new neighbors, but they ain’t dumb. Since I’ve been working at home I decided to either go on walks with mom or do yard work. Walking with mom is more fun, but working on the yard affects fewer encounters with friendly neighbors. So this week I started pulling all the weeds and extra grass out. Even your brothers helped. By the time we got all the weeds, grass, and extra branches out, it looked surprisingly good. So I suggested to mom that we go buy $20 in black mulch to finish it out. Well, $180 and 8 shrubs later, we got home to finish the job. We were all soon working it in the morning, digging holes, transplanting daffodils, cutting roots and moving dirt. We somehow filled three wheel barrows of dirt out of there we got it done. It only took a full Saturday too. There’s a few more things to do in the front, and your mom’s already done a ton of weeding, but we should get the front finished up this week. I’m not ready to do the back just yet.
Well, that’s my story for the day. I sure liked chatting with you, I enjoy your sense of humor. Hang in there Benjamin (not that I think you won’t) I figured you’re still on the Lord’s errand and he still needs you there. I know he’s pleased with you, as are your mom and I.
Lyity,
Pops
