Pig 2
Oh hi Benjamin,
About this time last year I started interviewing for the job I currently have. I remember feeling pretty upbeat about it. I also remember feeling so motivated to pray about it every single day. Several times a day. I don’t really miss the fear and uncertainty of that time. But as time have more normal, I seem to have become less motivated to pray that way. I still pray, but just not as vigorously.
Yesterday, we went to go lay sod down at grandmas house. It was one of those rare times when I actually bought the right amount of materials and did it, with the help of your brothers, in less than the time I thought it would. The sod was for the spot where her tree was. Grandma does not like her yard to be messy. I must say it looks good, and if I it doesn’t sink or turn into a mud pit with all of this rain, I’ll be very pleased.
As a thanks, grandma and grandpa took us to lunch afterwards. We went to an Italian deli in Holliday. It was so much fun. They came with us in the car. On the way home it hit me just how happy we were, how much fun we were having, and what a special place in time we were in with grandma and grandpa and your brothers. I felt that same motivation to pray, this time for gratitude for the happiness that we have been given.

In other news, we have a new addition to the family. We bought a new Jeep...well, a used, new to us 2008 Jeep Compass limited. The good news is that it only had 70,000 miles on it; the body is mostly straight and clean, the interior has leather and is immaculate, and it has AWD. The bad is it has some dings and dents in both bumpers including a hole in the front one; it needs tires; it vibrates a little on idle. The worst is that the transmission overheated ant went into limp mode when mom was driving it home, I was so mad. But I let it cool down and I have not been able to repeat that. I’m planning on changing the oil this week, and I’ll look at the transmission. I’ll change that if needed. The other bad thing is that I’m pretty sure that I possibly found the only car that could possibly be uglier than the pig...holy crap.
So Saturday we washed it, polished some scuffs it had, mom and joe painted in all of the rock chips, Jake and I polished the clouded headlights. I also painted part of the bumper that had been oxidized and faded. All of that work actually made it pretty presentable.
Tomorrow mom will get it licensed when she takes Joey to get his learners permit. Today joe did the classic first drive in the church parking lot, and he did pretty well. He’s very motivated to drive.
In other news, Morgan Scalley has been suspended as the Utes defensive coordinator. Apparently in 2013 he used a racial slur in a text to a recruit. He apologized for it at the time and openly admits to it. A lot of the team is standing by him as is coach Whittingham and the athletic director. I hope that because of the current environment the U is just being super cautious about it and that he not only comes back but that he can someday be the head coach.
In other Utes news, Booth Gotch is transferring. He was good, but my guess is that he’s not going to get the start ahead of Rylan Jones so he bailed.
Thinks here are starting to settle down after the riots last week, but there are still peaceful demonstrations in Salt Lake City every evening. They are rounding up the criminals, including the bow & arrow guy and the idiots that turned the cars over.
Well, that’s about all I have for now Benjamin, as always, I love you kid.
