Wendover

Oh hi kid,

So, something very confusing is happening to me. My whole life I thought I knew myself. I’m very confident in my tastes and preferences. I know what I like even if it’s nerdy or geeky. If it’s trendy or cool, I avoid it. But then...Hamilton. I’m embarrassed and ashamed. We’ll speak not of it again.

So, there are things that I do like that I’m very happy displaying my full nerdom to the world. I also found a fellow boring activity partner. You guessed it, uncle Tim. I found a tour of the old Wendover airfield. Back in the war, they trained bomber crews in bombing and shooting. Later, they trained the Enola Gay crew before they dropped the atomic bomb on Japan. We got to see the hangars, bunkers, gunnery range, loading pits, the barracks, the hospital, the mess hall and the  museum. They drove us around the base in an old bomb carriage. They had a great old ‘43 willys Jeep with a trailer. It ran so well. As that goofy photo shows, I barely fit in it, but I still really want one. The bonus of the whole things was that there was an air force C-17 allowed the tour to get on and check it out. It was going to haul a secret load to a secret destination. We got to see the cockpit and meet the crew. It was so great, they were so young.

Otherwise, this week was pretty busy. On Thursday we went to go fix grandmas sprinklers. Wednesday night I had an elders quorum meeting. Tuesday we saw the two towers. Monday grandma for some reason took us to get shaved ice.

Next week we’re planning a camping trip with uncle Tim and Jordan. I want to go, but it’s going to be hot, so we’ll see.

Well, we’ll chat tomorrow, love you kid,

Pops
