Ghost of Kiev
Happy Sunday night Jacob!
We’re watching a new movie on Disney +. It’s okay. Mom was onboard till there was a non essential f-bomb, now she’s a bit skeptical. She was dictating her letter to you when we were coming home from taking cookies to grandma. It was funny listening to her ask your brothers for funny quotes, it was so funny hearing her repeat them in her pure mom voice and tone. Mom had made these insane crumble style peanut butter cookies earlier in the week, and some amazing lemon cookies tonight so we took them over. There was an amazing sunset tonight on the way home.
Today was pretty slow, in a really good Sunday way. I slept until 9 today, then mom made a really great breakfast. After cleanup, I worked on my models for a couple hours. My F-15 is within spitting distance of being done. I also started another little truck model. It’s so tiny I’m having a difficult time with the tiny parts. I may need to sell my smaller scale kits, they are just too tiny to deal with.
Yesterday I got up early because I wasn’t sleeping well. I came down to work on my models till mom got up at about 7:30. There was an off road expo that I decided to go to. I just went by myself since Ben was working and Joey was going to go to work. It’s amazing how big it was, and how expensive the stuff was. They had $100,000+ jeeps. They had $60,000+ atvs. They had trailers like mine but fancy costing $30,000 to $40,000. They are way fancier, but I’m not sure how much more useful they’d be. They also had all these off road rigs that were really awesome. Truth be told though, my 4Runner is getting there. I bought a water jug for the trailer and a t shirt.
After that, mom, Ben and I went to Sam’s club…fun. Later, we met Joey on his lunch break, which was actually at 3:30. We went to this new place called Chubby’s. They have hamburgers and sandwiches and stuff. It was pretty freaking good, but man was it expensive. Restaurant prices are getting nuts these days. The rest of the day I was working on my 4Runner. I made a bracket for this switch controller thing, to control my light bar, ditch lights and air compressor with. I watch all these YouTube videos of these guys building these insanely nice rigs. So when I just hacked it in there before, it drove me nuts. So 6 months later I’m doing it for the third time, but it is getting better. But as the sun started going down it got really cold. It snuck up on me, so by the time I came in i was freezing cold.
The rest of the week since Friday was pretty unremarkable. I always think of funny things to tell you, but by the time I write to you, I’ve forgotten about them. Ben did go on a rant in Sam’s club about how over rated honey is, how it’s the most over rated natural sugar. Only ben. Ben and I also watched interstellar over two nights this week. I haven’t watched that since before ben left on his mission I don’t think. It struck me how some of the lines were almost gospel like. There’s this scene where they’re trying to decide which planet to go to. The girl wanted to go to one different from the dudes. Her boyfriend had gone to that planet. Her argument was so beautiful because she talked about love being able to transcend space and time. She talked about humans being able to love people that had already died. I could add in my experience that you could love people who weren’t born yet the way I felt you guys when mom and I were in the celestial room before our marriage. And how I loved your mom and would pray for her years before we met. I think there is a continuum in science and physics, on one end there are the things science understands: mathematics, gravity, chemistry, etc. and on the other side there are the things God understands: love, priesthood, creation, and those things. In between, there are the thing we get to figure out on the way to becoming more like Him. It’s awesome, it’s daunting, it’s so exciting.
Sorry for that tangent.
I’ve been wondering if Elizabeth’s baptism happened yesterday. I saw those pictures of your zone conference. Looked fun enough.
I finished that audible book called the Perfect Pass. It was really great. It taught me a lot about football in an entertaining way. I bought a used version of the paperback so you fellas can read it. I started another audible book called Yeager. I actually read that book when I was in college. It’s about this ww2 fighter pilot that broke the sound barrier in 1947 in the Bell X1 and what a total BA he was. He just recently died at age 95. What a cool guy.
You probably heard, but Russia invaded the Ukrain this week. It’s disturbing. Putin is a bad guy, but Trump and his acolytes really love him, and that’s super disturbing There’s this story of this Ukrainian fighter pilot that shot down 6 Russian fighter jets on the first day. Nobody knows his name, but the call him the Ghost of Kiev. Kiev is the capital of the Ukraine. Talk about a BA.
We were planning on a trip to Death Valley as I’ve told you. Literally everyone else that was so excited to come, bugging me about going, flaked out. So it’ll be just ben and I, and hopefully Joey if he can get work off. I think we’ll go somewhere closer in Utah, maybe comb wash or Moab. I think it will be super fun with just us, probably still cold.
This week the priests are going skiing. Joey wants me to ski with him. Im thinking about it, but I’m fat, so we’ll see. I’m for sure going to drive them up.
Well kid, know that I pray for you and that I love you,
Pops
