F-15

 September 22, 2021

Oh hi Jacob,

As you read this, you’ll be a day away from one month in Mexico. Longest month of your life? You are going through such intense experiences, through so much sensory stimulation, your brain is expanding like it probably hasn’t since you were a baby. It’s so exciting, so exhausting, so everything all at once. I’m simultaneously super jealous of your experience and convinced that I could never do it. But you are doing it. And even though you are super aware of how imperfectly you’re doing it, you are striving for perfection just by doing it.

Tonight mom was at a meeting so Ben and I started watching The Searchers with John Wayne. I’m not sure if he’s really liking it or not. As you know, it’s one of my favorite westerns. We haven’t been watching as many movies lately as we did last year. I’ve been trying to keep busy on projects.

Tonight I was working on wiring up those lights on the 4Runner I told you about. It takes me at least three times longer than I ever guess it will to do almost any project that I start. When they’re done and working, I’ll send you a picture. I still have to wire up a compressor I installed months ago.

I’m also trying to clean out my office a little. Not because I’m trying to be neat, but because I need space to finally set up a 3D printer. I’ve found some projects that could be fun, and, I’m always looking for interests I can share with you boys. But I think the real reason I’m always doing stuff like this is that it gives my brain something to think about to take me away from stress and stuff. Like piano is for you.

I’m also getting back to my modeling. I remember when I finally got this job two years ago I knew I was going to get it because I had two dreams of powerful airplanes flying with speed and power. One was of this WW2 navy plane, which I haven’t found a model of locally. The other was of an F-15 Eagle, which is one of the most powerful fighter jets in the world and one of my favorites. I bought a model of that right after I started my job. I was working on it regularly before we came home due to COVID-19, but stopped when I started working all day from my hobby room. I literally only do maybe 5 to 20 minutes at a time after I finish for the day. I can tell that it will be far from the best model I’ve done. Nevertheless, it’s enjoyable. I’ll send pics in a month or two when it’s done.

Sports talk is still about the Utes quarterback situation. Everyone besides Gordon Monson think brewer’s and entitled punk like I do. Patrick Kinihan say he was just a guy that was all n as long as he was always in, but gone as soon as he’s not. He also had an interesting take on why the PAC12 and especially Utah are struggling. Most teams had only 5 games (Utah only 3) in front empty stadiums, and that the Utes last year were an extremely young team, so this year they’re just suffering from lack of games experience. Which made a ton of sense to me. I’ve gotta say though, if the Utes loose to Washington state on Saturday, I might be done for the season. Not really, but you know the feeling.

Well, my eyes are getting heavy so I’m going to end this.

I sure love you kid,

Pops
