Floods and other issues

 Oh I Mr Jacob,

It’s Sunday early evening and it’s been a busy week. As such, I’m anticipating this letter to be fairly dull.

Work was busy all week, starting with Monday. I’ve been bad at going to the office lately but I had planned to go Tuesday. I had a rough time sleeping Monday night because I had reflux, but in the morning during my scripture study on the, e’hem, thrown. I had some success in my studies, and otherwise. I was hoping that my bowelular success would relieve me of my oozey feelings but it had the opposite effect. My mouth started the dreaded warning watering and the drill was on. I wiped, flushed, hit the fan switch, pulled up my drawers, turned and took the squatting position, and HURLED MAN! I was like a well trained fighter pilot preparing to eject, with a result no less intense. If I could move that quickly and deliberately all the time I’d be the Formula One champion driver. Luckily, I must have been feeling less than well on Monday because I didn’t have much in my stomach but gut juices. But that nasty brew came out at full velocity. That involuntary reflex lasted way longer than any workout I’d had in the last eon and I finished that bundle of fun in a pasty sweat. I showered up and went downstairs to work, I had too much on deck ta-not-ta, but I was glad I could work from home. I ended up taking a two hour nap for lunch and just went to bed after my last meeting for the evening.

While I was going through my gastrointestinal fun it was warming up outside. It made it to 80° on Tuesday. Which meant, much like in the spring of ‘83 (that’s for Ben) floods. On Wednesday all the news was about a street in kaysville that had severely washed out. People were and are laying sandbags near every stream. Even in our little neighborhood here in bluffdale the retention pond at the park overflowed and flooded the Bowery in the church parking lot. I guess people from the neighborhood put up sandbags to protect the church. Luckily, that was probably not necessary. By Wednesday Bluffdale city had come and cleared the big drain and fenced off the whole field. There’s a bathtub ring from how high the water got in the bowl, the grass below that is virtually gone, and it looks like they’ll have to regrade the whole bottom before it’s ever going to be a park again. I don’t think the flooding is done yet, but I’m not too worried about our house or neighborhood seeing anything worse, fingers crossed.

Thursday was just work, Friday too. But afterward we went to grandmas house to help her with spring cleanup. She had a bunch of bagged leaves from last fall that were nasty and rotting. Lucky Ben was with me and we got those and about a dozen new bags filled and out on the curb, along with a bunch of random crap from the shed, house, and garage ready for pickup. Our clothes, shoes, gloves, and my car stunk bad from the rotting leaves on the way home.

Saturday morning Ben had a field trip to dinosaur National Monument and yes, I was jealous. After mc with Joey mom and I went shopping, then went to aunt Stella’s to finish fixing her wall. I’m not sure how great of a job I did, but she was very sweet about it. We got home and I power raked the front and side yard. I got most of a trash can full of dead grass out and I felt good about it. As I get older I’ve begun to feel real satisfaction doing chores that I’ve always hated. I’ll finish the backyard tomorrow. Because we were on watering restrictions last year our grass took a beating. Im hoping to get it back to full health this summer, but then, I start every year with that ambition.

I worked for about an hour after that and then we had to go to Stake Conference. It was fine, really long, but fine. When Joey came home he was feeling kinda oozy, bad for him, but fortuitous for us. His bad luck let us stream today’s session on zoom. Plus, he’s recovered and doing fine. I did have to put in three or four more hours of work this afternoon, but I’m okay with that. Right now we’re streaming Maverick and the movie is holding up well on our home theater. Next time we watch it you will be with us.

Well, next week looks like another busy one. But the weather is warming up and camping season is closing in. I hope we get out a little more this summer.

Love you kid, I really do.
