Job day
Oh hi elder,
So, to elaborate on the teasers I’ve been sending you. Yesterday I met with the President of the company—Henry Schine One (that’s the name of the company, not the President, his name is Kevin). I had half an hour to meet with him. He was smart and direct, but not a jerk. He gave me a quick overview of the company history and position. He asked me about mine. He seemed interested in my management experience, I asked about how they acquire customers and other companies. He asked about my creative style and I described my processes. He asked about my work history and I asked about how they interact with their customers. It was fun.
I texted the hiring manager when I got home. He said he’d talk to the president to get his response. I got the reply I sent you this morning, “Yes. I did. It sounds like it went well. I will be meeting with the HR team later this week to discuss next steps.” I think that means I can have some confidence in an offer coming through, maybe an 80% chance. I feel better about it than that, but I cannot allow myself to get overly confident. I think I may have been given this challenge to learn some humility. My fear is that as I get comfortable again, I will loose that and pride will return. I don’t want to be the kind of person that is only humble when humbled. I want it to be more a part of who I am naturally. I want to seek God because I have a relationship with Him, not just because I have a need.
So I hope to hear something by Friday, but it may be Monday or Tuesday. Again, I’ll keep you posted.
I felt confident enough to take the fam out for a celebratory Baskin Robins after dinner though.
I decided to call today “Job” day. Mostly because of the above, but also because your brothers both landed interviews for sweeper jobs at mom’s new school next school year. Also, by coincidence, I watched the movie Jobs, about Steve Jobs when I was doing my weekly work search (still gotta keep that going).
Yesterday after the interview we went to grandmas to clean up her bottom patio concrete. There were several drips of stain from when we finished it and from when uncle Steven originally finished it. I do believe he had far more drips than we did, for the record. But the concrete was also a mess from all the old finish we scraped off and all the old dead leaves that fall there. Big clumps of half composted leaves. Most everything came of with sweeping and a pressure wash. I just wanted to finish the job looking like when it was new three years ago. It may become a yearly springtime tradition. We went to Sweeto Burrito for dinner, it’s really fun to hang out with grandma and grandpa.
The Jazz made a big trade today, jacob wanted to tell you, but if he’s not going to till Monday, I will and he can fill in with his expert analysis, because you know, i only sorta care. They traded a first round draft pick, Grayson Allen (hated that guy), Jae Crowder (liked that guy), and Kyle Korver (liked that guy, but I think he’s about done anyway). I guess it’s all good, at least the change up will make next year a little more interesting.
BYU had their media day yesterday. I really didn’t pay attention, but I heard one offensive lineman say that they were focusing 100% on the matchup with the Utes. I guess that means that the Utes are their rivalry game, conference championship game and bowl game all wrapped into one and that the rest of their games have no meaning at all. I no longer wonder why the Utes bother to play them, I just look forward to the streak extending every year now.
Next week is Jacob’s high adventure and youth conference. Bishop had asked me to attend both, but with the potential offer situation, I told him I’d come up Wednesday. I think it will be an awesome activity for the youth, if they allow it to be. Bishop has put in a super high degree of variety and complexity into the planning, and has done so much work and put in so many hours that I do hope it’s appreciated and enjoyed. If you don’t get a long letter next Wednesday, that’s why.
Well, I should try to sleep a little tonight, I haven’t been too successful at that recently, so I’ll bid you good night and tell you: I Love-YA-I-tell-YA!
Pops
P.S. I don’t know when you’ll get packages next, but look for your book to arrive at the mission home this week. You should have seen the look on the print techs face when I went to pick it up. That is a complex book, but I can sure see the usefulness of it.
P.P.S. Dallas’s dad texted me for your email address. He said that Dallas had asked for it so he could contact you. I’d like to hear how he’s doing.
P.P.P.S. You know how your little brother Joseph owns your mom? Well, today he showed that he owns me too. He talked me into talking the family to lagoon tomorrow. Uggh. I’ll let you know how that went.
