Roast beef tacos
Hi Ben,
Everyday when we’re thinking of you we ask, “I wonder what Ben is doing right now?” I’m kinda wondering that right now myself. It’s 9:00 pm your time on a Sunday night. Are you teaching, finding, meeting, on your way home? It’s 10pm here. I just got into bed, your mom’s next to me, you’re brothers just got to bed too. On school nights Joseph sleeps in his room, on weekends, he sleeps in your bed.
Today was a good day at church. We had Bishopric meeting at 10 am today, the usual time is 9. Both Bishop and I thought it was at 9, so I had an hour to get to know him better. He’s a really great person. Every week he demonstrates his keys and how he is inspired to lead the ward. He follows the Spirit. I find he teaches me a lot, like he’s training me to be Bishop. I can’t see being called as Bishop, but it the off chance it were to happen, I try to pay attention.
Mom worries when I tell you about our meals, but hey, what else is there in life when it all comes down to it? Mom made delicious shredded roast beef tacos with cheese, homemade guacamole, refried beans and Cesar salad. Man, what a way to break a fast.
Yesterday, was a quiet day. The weather is nice so I puttered around the garage. It’s a total disaster. I’m going to try to get it organized a little better. Grandma had us over last night, she made Alfredo and Parmesan chicken. It was just us and Jordan. Your brothers were really happy. I thought of you the whole time.
Tomorrow is your aunt Patti’s birthday. Your cousin Cecily is having a party for her.
Duke lost to Michigan state today in sports. I forgot to tell you that Dave Rose “retired” last week. Maybe they can get Jimmer as coach...like he knows anything about team sports.
Looks like the Utes are pretty hyped about spring football and the Andy Ludwig offense. Of course, the Utes are always best this time of year. There was an article last week saying that Chase Hansen played the second half of the season last year playing with a compressed disc, that it can make your whole body hurt. I’m often grateful that I was born with no athletic talent whatsoever. An injury like that can last your whole life.
I’ve been working pretty hard on that freelance project I got. I sent an in-progress proof to the client on Friday. I hope they’re okay with it. I think it’s pretty good so far.
Yesterday I asked grandpa to give me a blessing. I’m not sure what I was expecting, and I probably had some preconceptions about what it should be. He was a little confused and thought I was asking to give him a blessing. When he gave it to me, he only said three things in addition to the authority he was giving it with. He blessed me with prayer, with faith, and reminded me of the family God had given to me—you guys. That was it. Initially I was just wondering where the rest of the blessing was. I wondered if he was still confused. Even mom was a little taken aback. We left for home right after. I considered the prayer the whole ride home. I prayed about it too. It came to me that that was one of the most profound blessings I had ever received. It’s just like you tell your investigators. You need to prayer for your needs, then have faith that you’ll receive. The part about family was proof of Heavenly Father’s love for us. I do think it’s that simple.
So for today’s fast I was emboldened to as for a miracle, for prosperity (and for aunt Patti). I didn’t want to limit it by defining it, the Lord knows what we need. I did ask to recognize it. I’ll keep you posted.
Well, I look forward to Mondays. I’m conditioned to get excited when I hear the little google hangouts chime on my devices. I look forward to hearing from you son.
