5.7

Oh hi kid,

One of my favorite songs when I was in college was by a band called R.E.M. it was a fast paced, choppy, disjointed song. Here’s the first 10 seconds of the lyrics:

"It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)"

That's great! It starts with an earthquake,
Birds and snakes, an aeroplane;
and Lenny Bruce is not afraid.

Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn.
World serves its own needs, don't mis-serve your own needs.
Speed it up a notch, speed, grunt, no strength.
The ladder starts to clatter with fear of height, down height.
Wire in a fire, represent the seven games
In a government for hire and a combat site.
Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry
With the furies breathing down your neck.

For some reason, the world right now kinda seems like that.

As I’m sure mom told you, there was a wee earthquake in Utah this morning. Mind you at only a 5.7, and  being from California, it did not impress your mother. As for myself? Well...not that I was scared, more that it was an experience that I probably won’t forget until the bliss of senility sets in. I had just stepped into the shower. I thought it strange that I could hear helicopters through the white noise of the running water. I thought it more strange when I could feel the helicopters. Stranger still was when the helicopters began to shake the whole shower. Hold on! This is an earthquake! And it’s still going! I found myself bracing against the slick walls for some reason. Probably more to enhance the feeling of the motion than to brace myself from the shaking. I did have enough time to wonder if it was going to get worse, or if was going to last longer. Then it finally did stop. I figure it was maybe 10 seconds long, but it was a vivid 10 seconds.

I turned off the water, toweled of quickly, got half dressed, and went and checked on your mom and brothers. Mom was awake if nonplussed, Joey was alert and excited, jacob was awake, but he was calm, cool, and collected.

Artie called just then to check up, I texted my sisters and called my aunt, then I made mom call grandma. Everyone was fine. By then I was ready to go finish my shower and get dressed.

There were 6 people at work in the entire marketing department today, including myself and two of my staff. All those folks working from home have been awfully quiet.

During the day there were many social media rumors. On from a stake president who warned of an imminent 9.0 aftershock within 30 minutes...some people. (It was a hoax, he was a real guy, just hacked.)

In other news, our Death Valley trip is canceled or postponed. All park services will be closed until further notice, including visitors center’s, campgrounds, and services. I am putting together a Plan B, maybe to the Swell.

My Jeep is about put back together, I filled and started it today. It worked okay but it was symptomatic of having a bad thermostat...a bad but brand new thermostat I bought fro Autozone, I should have known better. I’ll stop by the dealer and get a good one tomorrow.

Did mom tell you about the angel Moroni’s trumpet falling off of the Salt Lake temple? It something every day around here.

All this is going on and I think of you being trapped in your apartment. I’m sure you’ll make the best of it. It may seem long but it will go by fast. Keep your spirits up, have fun, be good._

Well, I’ll sign off for now, I sure love you and we pray for you,

Pops

P.S. Tom Brady is signing with Jacksonville

P.P.S. There’s an unconfirmed case of Covid 19 at the office. Up on the second floor...so there is that
