Fathers’n’sons
Oh hi Elder Ben,
I’ve been wondering all day how your baptism went. Please fill us in with a few details if you think of it. We’ve been praying about it, and for you (as always).
While we’re at it (the heartfelt stuff that is). It occurred to me today that I should be more bold in my prayers. I’m reading Romans and Ether right now. Paul and the Brother of Jared both prayed for specific—big things. I’ve decided to pray that I get a job this week. I’m not sure if my faith is that big, but I do think that it’s okay to ask for those things, if they are righteous. Below is a quote that I’ve been really focusing on from a talk that has really carried me this week. It’s from April 2000.
Use your ingenuity, your strength, your might to resolve your challenges. Do all you can do and then leave the rest to the Lord. President Howard W. Hunter said: “If our lives and our faith are centered on Jesus Christ and his restored gospel, nothing can ever go permanently wrong. On the other hand, if our lives are not centered on the Savior and his teachings, no other success can ever be permanently right.”
Ok, enough of that heartfelt stuff, I promise, at least for this letter.
This weekend was fathers-and-sons at the Aspen Lakes Church campground. You may remember that from the time I took you and Jacob up there for a service project painting picnic tables. I remember filling you guys up on cheeseburgers, fries, and shakes, then paying the price when Jacob puked in the tent that night. I think that was before we even moved to Lehi, we were in my dad’s old red tent.
They’ve made a lot of improvements since then. The old painted tables are gone, there are nice pavilions with concrete pads, aluminum tables, and metal roofs. It was really beautiful up there. Your brothers canoed, played football, and did the obstacle course. The helped me set up camp too. I helped with breakfast the next day and broke camp while they went canoeing again. I could stay for a week up there. It pretty close to where my dad had his cabin. It’s, as the name implies, in the aspen trees with a lot of lush underbrush.
I really enjoyed getting to know more members of our ward. There are really dedicated men in this Ward that are truly good people. I have to say that this is the Ward that I’ve felt most at home in since my home Ward as a kid. I got Jacob Fielding’s dad to punch me when I called him Bishop Fielding. That joke never gets old. My Jeep is very popular in the Ward, for some reason, it gets more love than the pig.
Joe wants me to inform you that I am currently eating Babybel cheese.
Tonight is the night I’ll give your brothers blessings for the beginning of school, I gave mom hers last week. The summer sure went fast.
Argeorqui just beat Joe in a staring contest.
The AP rankings come out tomorrow, I’ll be interested to see where the Utes come in. Though honestly, the higher they are, the more uncomfortable I will be.
Today we went to grandmas for dinner, she made pork chops and amazing mashed potatoes. Just uncle Steven’s family was there, your brothers missed Jordan. Grandma loaded us up on school lunch supplies.
Football has started, NFL preseason anyway. I’m not a big enough fan to be that into it though.
Well, that’s about all I have this week. I sure love you Benjamin.
