Utes beat Kentucky...finally!

Oh hi Ben,

I think that’s a pretty good letter right there! I must admit, I was pretty tense that whole game, even when the Utes were up by 17 in the second half. I’ve been a Ute long enough to know that Kentucky was going to make a run, sure enough, the eventually tied it. The Utes did their classic, “play zone defense and use the clock” shenanigans to wind down the game. That, plus the fact that the refs were desperately trying to get Kentucky back in the game is what got the score tied. But the Utes hung in there for the win. Rylan Jones, the Utes freshman point guard, was the stand out for the Utes. He played hard and re injured his ribs, but he came back like a warrior. This is the kid the bill Walton said “looks like Dennis the menace” and “it looks like he’s seven years old”. The best player on the court was Timmy Allen. It was a really great win. I hope the Utes can break the top 25 after that.

Well, sorry I didn’t get this out last night. It was a late game and I’m not wired to stay up late these days.

So, how’s the new area? How’s the bicycle? I wonder if that area is also hilly, you could come back with some serious legs kid. How’s the new companion? Is that kid from Arizona? I feel like the kid on home alone bugging the van drivers who is mistaken for Kevin the morning of the desertion with all the obnoxious questions.

On the work front,I had been prepping for a full day and a half for a presentation I was to give to the whole marking dept. I wasn’t scared, but it is normal for me to tense up those situations. As the meeting went on, I realized time was going fast, then I realized I wasn’t going to present at all. The tightness in my shoulders drained and the relief set in. Then, as is often my cycle, I felt a teeny bit of regret for not getting my turn, then I felt tired, really tired.

Otherwise the job is good. I’ve been praying really hard on what to do with my staff. I’ve even discussed maybe resetting the whole thing by replacing some of the staff. After a prayer the other day I heard “go to lunch with them.” I sadly have to admit that my first visceral reaction was not positive to that prompting, but, as it was clear and immediate, the first thing I did when everyone was in the office was to make the suggestion. It felt good to be obedient to the prompting, but I have a super long way before my intents are self motivated rather than just acting on obedience.

Did mom tell you? Since Monday I’ve been researching lord Barnaby references wondering if they were perhaps an Edgar Allen Poe or poetry reference...nope...shardaro. Your brothers sure got a kick out of it.

I don’t say this to make you uncomfortable, but your letter Monday really moved me. I was able to see so many qualities in you I admire. I’m so proud of you Benjamin, I’m so grateful for you.

Well, on that awkward note, I sure love you kid.

Pops

P.s. did you know that the first thing joe did after talking mom into buying popcorn when the bought early tickets to Star Wars was? Spill most of it in her backseat. Poor kid felt bad, yet somehow, I was the one vacuuming out the car.
