Razzing Cal
Oh happy Sunday kid,
We’re just home from grandmas house...roast beef, baked potatoes, fat boy ice cream cake. Your sacrifice is great, it will be rewarded.
I’ll tell you something mom fears you’ll find difficult. ‘Your” team, the Cal Bears, lost to the Utes in a decisive game yesterday. I thought it better to be direct in the relay of that information to lessen the pain for you. A more amusing detail of the game. We were sitting close enough to the guest bench that we suspected the opposing coach could hear us. The reason? After a a call he disagreed with, we were jeering him, hard, after he pulled his jacket off i screamed at him to throw it. Instead, he looked our direction and threw a wad of paper. We kept that up for a while, at least until I lost my voice.
Friday night we watched a movie about JRR Tolkien. It was sorta his life story, I’ve gotta say, it was a little more boring than I’m willing to admit to your brothers. But it was interesting to see how the events of his life were reflected in his stories. He kind of reminded me of you. They depicted him as really tall, with a love of languages.
I’m feeling gas pains from grandmas dessert, worth it? Affirmative.
Work story of the week. I had done some ad concepting for two of our campaign managers. There was a bit of pressure because we just took over the marketing for these products, because it’s the first real creative I’ve done here so far, and because I was single handedly going against the small agency we use. Well, it my first presentation to the campaign managers I presented five concepts for each product. All 10 very much impressed them. They took a week to narrow it down, we then presented 3 each to both their boss and my boss. I wasn’t nervous, but I was a little put out because they were very much over hyping the work. A motto I’ve tended to follow over the years is “under promise and over deliver.” I don’t care for hype. Anyway, that meeting was at the end of the day Friday...let’s just say it led up to a well earned weekend...they were both very pleased, and agreed that it bested our agency. I’m grateful for small victories Ben. I have another similar presentation next week. This time the product proposition is much more difficult, I’ll try to remember to tell you how that goes.
I hear mom clicking away at her phone writing to you too. I hope we don’t overlap each other too much. Even if we do, I suspect her view of the world to be much different from mine.
This Thursday I’m taking a class on the Gaia mapping app...did I tell you already? It’s not as noble or as useful for society as moms classes, but it is being held in the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum.
Well, if I’m talking about that this letter must be about done.
Lyity,
Pops.
P.S. this week will mark one years since I lost my job. I consider myself blessed at the marking of that milestone.
P.S.S we’ve now lived in this house longer than we lived in our Texas house, also a blessed milestone.
