Waiting

Waiting...

Dearest kid,

I think you know me well enough to know that I have strengths and weaknesses of character. Something that I should be better at after all this is patience...I’ve been waiting seemingly forever.

Let me elaborate.

As I mentioned in my quick note yesterday, I met with Mike Allsop from Henry Schien for lunch yesterday. I thought of you since he asked me to meet him at Buffalo Wild Wings, it was my first time there. I ordered the street tacos and potato wedges from the lunch menu by-the-way. So we started with some small talk, then a little job talk. It seems my persistence in my weekly check-in’s, aka, pestering has paid off. He told me to expect an offer. We spent the rest of the time talking about our adventures in the mountains and deserts. He had some good ones. So I wait, nothing today. I’ll send you another quick note or two with progress if it happens this week. They have a history of being deliberate, but so fat trustworthy... I wait.

There’s been an additional update that I’ve been dealing with. Last week I applied to a freelance position for Cisco systems, the company that Dallas’ dad works for. I think I told you about the strange text based interview done over google hangouts. Sunday I was notified that they were offering the position to me, Monday I got the offer, I only accepted because I was looking to replace my unemployment checks when they run out next month. It’s not my normal rate, but it could be consistent. There were two points in the employment agreement that made me think it was okay even if I were to get a full time gig. The first one was that it was understood that I would have other employment or income, and that was fine. The second was that it’s an at-will agreement, meaning I could stop working for them by their choice or mine. That’s common in Utah, in fact, Utah is known to employers as an at-will state, which is shorthand for non-union. Something unexpected, and a bit confusing, was added to this employment arrangement. Turns out that They are setting me up with a home office of sorts, including a MacBook Pro, a printer, a Wacom tablet, along with various software for the job. Interesting. So today fedex delivered a check for $6,700 to pay for it all. Then, confusion. I deposited the check as directed, then they said the equipment would be delivered when payment is made from me to the vendor. Two problems though. It usually takes a day or two for funds to be available for a check of that amount to be available. And they told me to pay with a money order to a bank account or money order. That feels a bit like a scam to me, so I’m proceeding with a bit of caution. But I’ve done a little research and I can’t find anything that seem shady, so I’ll keep following up. But I’m still waiting on that too.

Today I felt like I was in the Jeep all day, between going to the bank twice, taking mom lunch, dropping off Joe, picking up Jacob after his field trip, taking the boys to work due to a flat tire on Jakes new bike, then picking them up...I’m tired.

Tomorrow I have a video interview with SUU. I really don’t feel like doing it, but until I HAVE the Henry Schien job, I’m not easing up on the search. Wanna come home to Cedar City?

So I look forward to a near future that’s potentially the exact opposite of the last 6 months, at least in regards to busyness and hopefully productivity.

I sure hope this all works out kid. I assume it will. I’m not sure if that’s due to patience, faith or gullibility.

Anywho, Love-YA-I-tell-YA!
